Devon Mathis
Fresno State Alumnus
In 2014, Devon was elected to represent California’s 26th Assembly District which encompasses Tulare, Inyo and a portion of Kern Counties. This year’s redistricting will have the Assemblyman representing all of King’s County in the new District 33.
As a lifelong resident of the South San Joaquin Valley, Devon has a deep connection with his communities, as well as a devotion to his county. In 2001, Devon joined the California Army National Guard where he served as Sergeant for nearly 10 years, including 2 combat tours to Iraq. As Squad Leader his leadership guaranteed 100% accountability and completion of all missions.
During Devon's second tour in Iraq, he sustained major injuries from a road side bomb attack in 2008 which gained him a Purple Heart. After returning home, Devon went through extensive VA therapy. This road to recovery prepared him for a return to civilian life and to his college success. Overcoming poverty and disabilities, Devon graduated from the California State University, Fresno in 2013, and earned his Master’s in Professional Studies in Strategic Public Relations from George Washington University in 2021.
Given his life experiences, and skills to lead and train soldiers, he was appointed as the Whip for the Assembly Republican Caucus. The Assemblyman currently lives in Tulare County with his family and is proud to serve the Central Valley.
